The election is over, but before getting to who won I thought I’d share two proposals to acknowledge the non-winners both in the WCCUSD BOE and also at the county level. I sent them as letters to the WCCUSD BOE.

Dear Board Members and Superintendent:

By all means, the focus of attention for the Board should be on acknowledging outgoing members and swearing in the new members, but it would also be a nice gesture to include some recognition for the other candidates who also ran. I would suggest a single consent item thanking all the also-rans by name and encouraging their continued participation in the affairs of the school district.

Hopefully, this could be a regular feature for the post-election meetings of the Board.

The County Board of Education Candidate Who Was Voted Out

Subject: WCCUSD BOE Agenda Suggestion: Recognize Pamela Mirabella for Service on CCC BOE

Dear Board Members and Superintendent:

After 28 years on the Contra Costa County Board of Education, Pam Mirabella will no longer be serving on that board. Although this is a different jurisdiction, Ms. Mirabella's trustee area includes almost all of WCCUSD. In view of this, I would like to recommend that a resolution to commend her service be placed on the agenda under "Awards and Recognitions" -- with Ms. Mirabella's permission, of course. Along with being an opportunity to review her accomplishments on the board, it would be an opportunity to educate the public on the role of the CCC Board and Office of Education particularly in relation to WCCUSD.

Best,
Charles Cowens

I’m sure the county board will have some kind of recognition for her, but this has the advantage of reaching a wider audience (TV).
